Patients and staff at Colchester General Hospital had to find alternative routes after a car crashed into a corridor this morning.
Emergency services were called at 9.05am after the collision close to the hospital’s Elmstead Day Unit.
The car driver, a woman in her 70s, had to be cut free by fire crews.
She was treated by paramedics and hospital staff before being taken for tests.
It is understood she has been admitted to the hospital and is in a stable condition.
No-one else was hurt in the collision at the Turner Road site.
The car drove into a corridor which links the main hospital with a wing building.
The cause of the crash has not yet been established.
A hospital spokesman said the corridor was closed and people diverted until 2pm while the area was made safe and repairs carried out.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed some its staff helped at the scene of the incident.
