A man was taken to hospital with a head injury after his car crashed into an electricity pole near Bury St Edmunds.

Emergency services including police, paramedics and firefighters were sent to Tuddenham Road in Herringswell at around 10.30pm yesterday following reports of a single vehicle collision.

According to a spokesman for Suffolk police, the crash involved a Honda Accord which had come off the road and hit an electricity pole.

Three fire engines – one from Mildenhall and two from Newmarket – were dispatched as the man was initially trapped in his vehicle.

However, his injuries were minor and he was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for treatment.

UK Power Networks were made aware of the damaged electricity pole.

“It was a single vehicle collision with no serious injuries,” he said.

“A man was initially trapped but is not now.

“The vehicle had hit a power line.”

Fire crews called a stop on the incident at around 11.05pm.
