HUNDREDS of pounds of damage was caused to a shop when a car ploughed through its front window tonight.

An Alfa Romeo car smashed into The Corner Shop in Leiston at about 10pm. Police said the building had been “totally dismantled” by the accident.

A structural engineer was last night assessing the damage to the shop, which is on the corner of High Street and Main Street in the town.

Police said the crash appeared to be an accident and an investigation was under way. They said no-one was hurt and no arrests had been made. No other cars were thought to be involved.
