A BOGUS gardener has conned a homeowner out of cash for work that was never completed.

A police spokesman said the man called at a house in Horsecroft Road in Bury St Edmunds at about 10.30am on Tuesday offering to do gardening work.

Cash was handed over and details agreed but within minutes the gardener came back saying his chainsaw was broken and demanded more cash to go away and get it fixed.

Despite the victim handing over more money the man never returned.

Police are looking for a man who was driving a white van, which at the time of the incident had two children aged about eight inside it.

He is described as white, under 40 years old, 5ft 10in tall of stocky build, with a round face and small mouth.

Anyone with information should call Pc Rachel Bullingham on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
