Specialist Aldeburgh cheese shop Slate has been shortlisted for a Shop of the Year award.
The Guild of Fine Food’s annual awards is an accreditation scheme which recognises and promotes excellence in independent retail.
Among the 42 independent retail outlets on its 2018 shortlist, Aldeburgh-based Slate is in the running for Best Specialist Cheese Shop in the UK.
Slate, which only opened last year, has already had a written entry reviewed by a panel of industry experts. It will now undergo two further rounds of judging this summer, an announced visit from one of the judges and a visit by a mystery shopper.
Altogether, nine cheese shops have been shortlisted. The panel of judges will rate, score and give feedback on every aspect of the shops before agreeing on a category winner.
The award winners will be announced on September 20, in a ceremony at the Guild of Fine Food’s London base.
