Plans are being put in place to clear up the debris of two homes following a gas explosion in Clacton last month.

Tendring District Council (TDC) has been given permission by the Health and Safety Executive and Essex Police to carry out the work and remove the rubble in Cloes Lane.

The council has also been talking to the owners of the properties to ensure that they give their agreement for the operation to take place.

The aim is to sort and store any personal possessions that can be retrieved so the owners can decide what they want to keep.

Nigel Brown, TDC’s communications manager, said: “We now have the necessary permissions and agreements from the owners and expect to have our contractors, Rose Builders, on site within a week to 10 days’ time,” he said.

One council house was damaged in the explosion and the tenants are expected to return home next weekend.
