A motorist had to be rescued by a lifeboat after their van became stuck in mud attempting to cross the Osea Island causeway in Essex.
The coastguard were alerted around 3.40pm yesterday and sent the West Mersea RNLI lifeboat to assist.
The driver had got out of the van and was stuck on the roof due to the rising tide.
Lifeboat crews rescued the driver from the roof and took him ashore, where he was given safety advice by the coastguard team.
The van was later recovered when the tides were lower.
