A MAJOR sea and air search is underway tonight after an unmanned yacht washed up on an Essex beach sparking fears its crew had fallen overboard.
A MAJOR sea and air search is underway tonight after an unmanned yacht washed up on an Essex beach sparking fears its crew had fallen overboard.
The vessel turned up on Tollesbury beach at 5.30pm today with a search operation focusing on the entrance to the Blackwater estuary.
Teams from West Mersea lifeboat, Clacton lifeboat, Walton lifeboat, a rescue helicopter from Wattisham Airfield, Bradwell coastguard, Mersea coastguard and Clacton coastguard, are involved in the search.
A spokesman for Thames Coastguard said: “There maybe an innocent explanation but as a precaution we are carrying out a search.”
