Police believe a fire in Colchester - which led to a block of flats being evacuated - was started deliberately.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the bin fire in a car park beneath flats in De Grey Road, which happened at about 1.25am yesterday.

The flat block was evacuated for a couple of hours while the fire was extinguished and the area made safe.

Three vehicles were damaged by the fire and police are looking for information about how it was started and by whom.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Colchester on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
