Firefighters in Essex were called out to a blaze which affected the gardens of three terraced houses on Monday evening.
Two crews from Colchester and one from Wivenhoe were sent to the incident in Sydney Street, Colchester, at 6.20pm.
The fire was extinguished at 7pm.
A spokesman for the fire service said it is believed the fire was started deliberately.
