The sounds of Scotland will ring out in Colchester this month at the town’s annual Pipes in the Park event.

Lower Castle Park will be transformed into a mini Highland gathering on Sunday, June 18, as hundreds of pipers from across the south of England arrive to play.

The popular event was first launched in 1994 by Lieutenant Colonel Willie Allan on behalf of the London and South East Branch of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

The aim was to create a contest to spur on pipe bands on the south of England and to get more people to take up the traditional instrument.

Crowds can expect a host of pipers, colourful tartan kilts, highland dancing and an authentic Scottish atmosphere.

The event kicks off with piping quartets at 10.30am followed by a junior Highland dancing display, pipe band contests, a display by the RAF Air Cadet band and a massed bands finale and prizegiving.
