Firefighters were called to Claremont Heights in Essex Hall Road after a fire alarm went off in the residential block this evening.
Two crews from Colcehster attended the incident at 8.03pm, and on arrival reported the fire was already out.
They found an elderly woman suffering from the affects of smoke inhalation inside the property and administered oxygen therapy while awaiting the arrival of paramedics.
The casualty was later left in the paramedics care, and the incident was dealt with by 8.36pm.
