Community groups have banded together across Suffolk to help assist those most in need during the coronavirus outbreak.

Aldeburgh

• Aldeburgh Town Council is working with the Church, Parish Nurse and Aldeburgh United Charities to support the work of AGNES (Aldeburgh’s Good Neighbour Scheme) to co-ordinate efforts in the town. They have over 65 volunteers working to help the town and can

Bromeswell

Elmswell

• The Elmswell Virus Support is providing support and communication for those living in the village. it has delivered flyers to every house in the village and are working with Woolpit Health Centre to deliver prescriptions. Elmsett

• Trevor Clarke has set up a scheme in Elmsett near Hadleigh offering shopping, medicine collection etc. for elderly and isolated people in the village. Mr Clarke has a team of 23 volunteers in the village who collect requests from the doorstep and go to places like Hintlesham and Bildeston for people who are stuck at home. He hopes that more people in the village will take up the scheme. You can contact Mr Clarke on 01473 658876.

Felixstowe

• The Felixstowe Helping Hands group is being run by councillor Darren Aitchison who has more than 300 volunteers registered on his database. They can help with shopping, prescription pick-ups, dog walking, vet prescriptions. Get in touch with the group through its Facebook page or by calling 07479556.

Framlingham

• More than 100 volunteers have been recruited by the Hour Community to serve residents of Framlingham. Residents can place an order with the organisation, with a volunteer later delivering a box containing food, medication and magazines to their homes. You can get in touch with the scheme by calling 01728 440511.

Kesgrave

• The Kesgrave Covid-19 Community Group is made up of more than 300 volunteers who have stepped up to help the community. They have posted cards to residents with an emergency number and will provide help and information to people in the town. The group has set up a Facebook group called Kesgrave Emergency Support Covid-19 where you can get in touch with project leader Deborah McCallum.

Halesworth

• If you need anything, from shopping, to a chat, you can contact a volunteer from the Halesworth Volunteer Centre 24/7 on 01986 875600 or email covid@halesworthvc.co.uk.

Hadleigh

• Hadleigh Food Bank is providing food for the local community. Anyone who needs the food bank’s help should email hadleighfoodbank@gmail.com or call 07985 460158.

Holbrook

• Holbrook Helpers is a joint village venture initiated by the Parish Council and supported by Holbrook surgery, churches and Holbrook Society. They have a large group of fantastic volunteers offering help with shopping, prescriptions, dog walking or just a chat over the phone. There are posters in the village and the surgery are issuing flyers with all their prescriptions. If you need help call 01473 327099 for information.

Ixworth

• Ixworth Parish Council have joined up with the Ixworth Association, St. Mary’s and Jiggens Memorial Trust, to create a live database of vulnerable residents in the community as well as a list of those able to assist them.

Melton

• The recently started Melton Good Neighbours Scheme is helping people there by delivering shopping, collecting and delivering prescriptions, taking dogs out for walks, making phone calls and answering practical questions. Newmarket

• Newmarket Town Council has created a helpline to support vulnerable people in the town find help. The line is available from 8am-8pm, seven days a week on 01638 667227. The council is also acting as a hub for volunteers and working with partner organisations to identify ways in which it can support organisations already working with the vulnerable in our community.

Rendlesham

• Rendlesham GNS are able to help those living in the village and are also looking for more volunteers to help them through this tough time. Among the services the group can offer is food delivery from the Costcutters store. Those wishing to order should call on a Monday or Thursday to have their food delivered on Tuesday or Friday afternoon. Those interested can call 07486 551 004 for more information.

Saxmundham

• A scheme is being run by the Good Neighbour Scheme (IP17GNS) as well as Saxmundham Town Council, the Church of

England, Sax’cess House, Saxmundham & District CIC (SADCIC), and the Suffolk Good Neighbours

Scheme. If you are running low on food, need a prescription collecting or need other support you can contact them on 0333 335 5266 (from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) or by texting to 07835 064587 and emailing help@ip17gns.com. Shottisham

• The Sorrel Horse is offering takeaway meals between 12 and 3pm and from 6pm to 9pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Delivery is free in Shottisham but a £1.00 delivery charge outside the village Call 01394 411617 – card payments only.

Sutton

• The Plough Inn at Sutton is offering takeout. Call 01394 410505 for more information.

Snape

• The Crown is selling meat, fish, bread and vegetables and also offering takeaway. For more details call the pub on 01728 688324.

• A village larder has been set up in the grounds of Snape Primary School with a re-purposed cupboard. The larder is open between 11am and 12pm each day with social distancing measures in place to make sure food and supplies are taken safely. If you are in need of something or want to donate to the larder call Snape Good Neighbourhood Scheme on 0754 1754 426.

Sudbury

• The Bridge Project is delivering meals to people living in Great Cornard and Sudbury, Acton, Long Melford and Great Waldingfield. Those in need of the project’s services or who could help them out should call 01787 313691.

Woodbridge

• Woodbridge Town Council has helped to organise an army of volunteers known as the Emergency Response Group.

The group can carry out a number of different roles including walking the dog, posting mail, delivering shopping etc. To volunteer or request help from the group get in touch with your ward councillor or email emergency@woodbridge-suffolk.gov.uk.

• The Teapot Project is working with Woodbridge Town Council are rescuing surplus food to offer to communities and charities primarily feeding the homeless, staff at the NHS and kids who would normally have a free school meal. We have also sent out emergency food parcels to our local and extended community. Anyone who needs the project’s help or who thinks they can help should contact the project via Facebook or email emergency@woodbridge-suffolk.gov.uk.
