Two Suffolk pupils met children’s author Michael Morpurgo at St Edmundsbury Cathedral recently after winning Suffolk Libraries’ Best Christmas Present in the World competition.

Thomas Pickersgill, from Bradfield St George, and Rebecca Cooke, from Walpole, beat more than 200 other entries in the competition, in which children wrote to Michael Morpurgo to tell him what their best Christmas present would be.

Thomas said he wanted to be able to transform into animals and go on fantastic journeys, whilst Rebecca wanted to be able to jump in and out of story books to meet the characters and share their adventures.

The children and their families presented their winning letters to the author after watching him perform his festive short story Best Christmas Present in the World alongside actress Virginia McKenna.
