A CONTROLLED detonation took place yesterday morning after a dredger picked up an explosive device off the Essex coastline.
Thames Coastguard received a report that the dredger Brabo had found a fourteen-inch diameter projectile shell 12 miles off Harwich.
The Royal Navy Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Team from Portsmouth attended and the device was destroyed in a controlled detonation.
