A man in his 20s is in hospital after he was stabbed in the neck at 3.30am in Dogs Head Street, on the pavement outside the Best Kebab Centre.

Throughout the day, forensic officers were at the scene. Initially the whole street was closed at both ends but by 7pm it had reopened, with a smaller cordon in place where the actual attack took place.

Detectives are still searching for the person responsible for the attack.

Currently, they are appealing for help tracing a suspect described as approximately 6ft in height, of slim build, with short mousey-coloured hair.

He is believed to have been wearing a dark zip-up hoodie with white stripes down both arms and white outlines.

His hoodie is said to have an emblem across the front.

His trousers are described as dark, possibly jeans, and he was wearing light-coloured shoes.

Police say the stabbing is being treated as an isolated incident. No arrests have yet been made.

A man with blood on his shirt near Northgate High School yesterday was a witness to the attack, officers say, and is not being treated as a suspect. Police found the man at 7.40am after receiving two calls from members of the public who had seen him.

There was no update this morning from police on the condition of the victim but the last report from officers was that he was in hospital in a “serious but stable condition”.

Witnesses to the stabbing or any altercation in the street at the time were urged to call police.

Detectives are also keen to trace two other men seen with the suspect following the incident.
