FIREFIGHTERS have today tackled a huge blaze at a derelict factory in Dovercourt.
The fire broke out in Main Road at about 1.20pm and crews from Dovercourt, Weeley, Manningtree were on scene as well as the aerial ladder platform from Chelmsford.
The factory is a three storey building and the second floor was completely alight when firefighters arrived.
The blaze was put out by 4pm and crews remained at the scene to damp down the property.
Station Officer Neil Holloway said: "Crews did a fantastic job in containing this fire, there are businesses and residential properties either side of the derelict building and it is thanks to their hard work and professionalism that none of those buildings have suffered any damage as a result of this fire.
"The fire seems to have started on the first or second floor and spread from there, but those are the two floors which have been most affected.
"At this stage it appears that the fire was started deliberately. An investigation will take place to establish the exact cause of the fire."
