David Mortimer will take over the reigns at the head of the council from this year’s mayor, Clare Perkins.
Mr Mortimer grew up in Burgh and attended local schools including Farlingaye High School.
Mr Mortimer met his wife Linda in Felixstowe in 1994 and they married in 1997.
As well as being a member of the town council Mr Mortimer works in energy surveying and is also a qualified Commercial Drone Pilot.
For his mayoral year Mr Mortimer will be supporting the Rotary Club of Woodbridge, of which he is a member.
Through this he will be supporting the Jetty Lane centre project.
The Woodbridge Soldiers Fund at Rock Barracks will be his other charity.
Patti Mulcahy was elected deputy mayor for the year.
