DRIVERS in Ipswich were facing delays today as work to replace gas mains saw part of a busy main road closed.
One lane of the A1214 London Road was shut this morning from Scrivener Drive to the Interchange Retail Park as National Grid workers moved in.
Only a single lane was open for traffic heading towards Copdock and the A12.
The project is due for completion in October and involves the replacement of 2.5kms of gas mains underneath the carriageway.
National Grid Network Supervisor Karl Shipp said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists and local residents.
