Colchester boy Dermot O’Leary has been announced as the new ceremonial head of a north Essex hospice.
The radio and TV presenter, who went to school in the town, will be the patron of St Helena Hospice.
Dermot said: “It is an honour to become patron of St Helena Hospice.
“The charity is an institution in North East Essex, anyone who lives there has heard of it and knows the great work they do.
“I hope we can continue to raise awareness of their invaluable services, and raise funds towards care of patients and families.”
Mark Jarman-Howe, hospice chief executive, added: “We would like to thank Dermot for taking on the role. We are delighted to have the support of such a well-respected and community-minded individual.”
