DOCTOR Who star David Tennant has become the face of a greeting card campaign to raise money for a Colchester-based charity.

The renowned actor has signed 1,000 cards to raise funds for Headway Essex, which supports people with brain injury, their families and carers.

The “Time Lord” became the patron of Headway Essex following a research stint at its headquarters for his portrayal of a person with brain injury in the BBC drama Recovery.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to help Headway raise the profile of brain injury.

“While researching my role in Recovery, I spent time at Headway Essex where I observed some of the group sessions as well as chatting to some of the members.

“It was a truly humbling experience. There was so much hope, humour and positivity, mixed with occasional anger and sadness.”

“It was a very powerful experience, seeing first-hand the effects brain injuries can have on people.

“It made me realise just how lucky I am and brings fresh meaning to the phrase 'There but for the grace of God go I'.”

A personalised message can also be put inside the black and white cards, which cost a minimum of £20.

Anyone interested in the cards should contact Headway on 01206 547616 or fill out an application.
