The man from Claydon was taking part in a meet at Foxhall Stadium which was called off following the serious collision.

His V8 stock car smashed into a barrier at about 6.50pm last night leaving him trapped inside and needing to be freed by firefighters.

The race was called off while emergency services attended the scene and the man was finally free and able to be taken to hospital by 8pm where he was treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The Health and Safety Executive was contacted by police and will now launch an investigation into the smash.
