Police spoke to around 30 people last night as part of anniversary checks into an attempted sexual assault against a teenage girl in East Bergholt.

Officers were in Chaplin Road between 3pm and 7pm last night - a week after the 15-year-old was approached by the alleged offender as she was walking past the Hare and Hounds pub.

After she rejected his attempts to talk to her, the man is said to have grabbed her wrist, pulled her into some nearby bushes and exposed himself. Police said he made sexual comments and tried to force himself on the girl who managed to run away.

Detective Inspector David Giles said: β€œI am still in search of the any key witnesses who can provide information in relation to this offence. I would also encourage people to look at the e-fit image to see if anybody recognises the man.

β€œIt is timely to remind people to take care and be mindful of their personal safety when they are out, but also to reassure people that this type of offence is thankfully rare in Suffolk.”

The offender is described as a white man in his twenties, with blond short spiked hair, dark coloured eyebrows and stubble. He was wearing skinny-fit light blue jeans and a grey hooded top.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning in connection with the attack but will face no further action, police said.
