A two vehicle crash on the A12 at Hatfield Peverel caused long tailbacks.
The accident, on the southbound carriageway at junction 20A, partially blocked the road this morning.
Traffic queued back as far as Marks Tey at junction 25.
It is understood no-one was seriously injured.
