A MAN has been left homeless after a fire decimated the ground floor of his house in Essex on Thursday afternoon.
Police and fire service officials are now carrying out an investigation into what started the blaze in the semi-detached property in Great Bromley, near Colchester.
Three fire crews were mobilised to the scene in Frating Road at about 3.15pm on Thursday following reports of the blaze, which had affected the ground floor of the property.
Firefighters used one hose reel to tackle the fire and they also administered oxygen therapy to a 46-year-old man who had suffered smoke inhalation because of the fire.
The blaze was brought under control just after 4.20pm by firefighters using two hose reels.
The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support vehicle attended the scene to help the man who owned the property.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and the police will carry out an investigation.”
