Police are reminding motorists to take extra care with some roads covered in flood water following heavy rain overnight.
Rain swept in to the region last night and has continued in parts this morning with many routes being left hazardous with surface water.
A spokeswoman for Essex Police said: “Drivers should slow down and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. When driving through flood water choose a low gear and do not attempt it if the water is fast flowing or too deep. Driving too fast, even in relatively shallow water can cause water to be ingested into the engine. Drive slowly and steadily to avoid creating a large bow wave.
“Test your brakes as soon as you leave the water.”
The wet weather is expected to continue during the course of the day and over the weekend.
