Three events have been organised to celebrate the artist Thomas Gainsborough and his circle of musical friends.
Gainsborough’s House in collaboration with the Suffolk Villages Festival is staging two talks and a concert to coincide with the current exhibition, “Karl Friedrich Abel, Composer and Impresario”.
Beginning tonight at 7pm, Suffolk Villages Festival director Peter Holman will give a talk at the house on “Gainsborough and Music”. Then, this Sunday at 4.30pm, a second talk on the same subject will be given by Mark Bills, director of Gainsborough’s House.
A concert will follow at 6pm in Sudbury’s St Peter’s Church, directed by Peter Holman and featuring soprano Philippa Hyde, Mark Caudle on bass viol and the Essex Baroque Orchestra. The concert will explore music composed by Gainsborough’s friends, particularly as heard at the famous Bach-Abel Concerts in London.
For details, visit www.suffolkvillagesfestival.com or call the box office on 01904 651485. The Abel exhibition will continue at Gainsborough’s House until January 11.
