TRAFFIC around Stowmarket town centre was brought to a standstill on Saturday morning after a lorry carrying 44 tonnes of onions overturned on Gipping Way.
No one was hurt in the early-morning accident – which happened just after 5am – but the road was expected to be shut until lunchtime as recovery and repair work continued.
The Dutch-registered lorry damaged a street light some of its cargo was thrown over the road.
A police spokesman said: “Thankfully no one was hurt but it will take some time to clear. The county council sent staff to help deal with the street light.”
The road reopened at lunchtime once the debris had been cleared and the street light repaired.
