Fire crews were called to Felixstowe Docks overnight to tackle a blaze on board a vessel heading into the port.

At 12.21am the fire service received a call reporting that a ship pulling into the harbour was on fire.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Appliances from Felixstowe Docks, Felixstowe, Ipswich East and Woodbridge were mobilised, along with the turntable ladder from Ipswich East and the command unit from Woodbridge.

“The first appliance was on scene at 12.33am to find that there was a small fire in the light fittings, which was extinguished by the ship’s crew.

“The firefighters ensured the situation was under control and all appliances had left the scene by 107am.”
