“FAST” Eddie Maher’s daughter-in-law has emerged as the person who told police he was wanted man in Britain.

Although it is unclear if Jessica King was aware that the 56-year-old was sought in connection with the disappearance of 1million from outside Lloyds Bank in Felixstowe in 1993, US police confirmed it was the 25-year-old who came to them in Ozark, Missouri.

Mrs King – who is estranged from Maher’s son, Lee King, 22 – is understood to have fallen out with her husband of two months.

As a consequence of the information she relayed to Officer David Overcast, Maher – a former Securicor guard – was put under surveillance before being arrested on Wednesday last week.

Ozark police chief Lyle Hodges said: “Officer Overcast was told by Jessica King, who thought he [Maher] was called “Fast” Eddie.

“She came to the officer and told him she believed Mr Maher was wanted in England.”

Overcast checked police databases for warrants, but drew a blank. He then went online to see if he could trace “Fast” Eddie’s identity, as the broadband technician was living in Ozark under his elder brother’s name of Michael Richard Maher.

After discovering the theft of 1million, which was in a security van, Officer Overcast checked Maher’s driving licence photo with the picture of “Fast” Eddie from 1993.

When Officer Overcast saw Maher’s picture he recalled dealing with him two months earlier, when he had been the victim of an assault.

Maher is being held at Greene County Jail, Missouri on an illegal possession of firearms charge. He is due in court next Wednesday.
