COUNCIL workers were called after a huge old Corsican pine tree was felled by strong winds today – and crashed to the ground just feet from a bungalow.

The tree was blown down at Kendal Green, off Western Avenue, Old Felixstowe.

People living in the area have been asking Suffolk Coastal council for some time to remove the group of trees because of worries that they could fall following a similar incident a few years ago.

The soil in the area is sandy and householders believe it would be safer to axe the specimens.

Several van loads of council workers were sent to the scene today to cut up the tree. The area was cordoned off to enable the work to take place.
