A cinefilm show of Braintree in the 1980s takes place at Braintree Museum on Tuesday, March 7.

This will be the museum’s second film show by amateur film maker Nick Williamson with footage including the demolition of Courtauld factories, the building of Towerlands, and changes to the town centre shops.

Nick Williamson lived in London Road, Braintree. Between 1957 and 1987 he used an 8mm camera to film the changing historic landscape and events in Braintree.

Many of the films are accompanied by music and Nick Williamson’s own commentary. His film scrapbooks are a detailed record of events in and around Braintree at a specific moment in time. The museum has the cinefilm in its collection and has begun a project to digitize the collection, funded by the Friends of Braintree Museum.

The films will also feature in an exhibition this autumn on the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
