Firefighters used breathing gear to tackle a bedroom fire in Tollgate Lane, Bury St Edmunds, early this morning.
A spokesman for the fire service said a mattress had burst into flames, filling the house with smoke. However, no-one is thought to have been at the property when the fire broke out.
The spokesman said four sets of breathing apparatus were used by firefighters as they tackled the incident, which was spotted at just after 7am. The incident was under control by just after 8am and the two crews from Bury are presently monitoring the situation and ventilating the building.
The spokesman said: “There was no-one inside the property at the time and there are no casualties.”
