TWO members of Suffolk Fire Service have been suspended as police investigate allegations of rape and sex abuse.

TWO members of Suffolk Fire Service have been suspended as police investigate allegations of rape and sex abuse.

A 32-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both from Felixstowe, have both been questioned by police over the historic allegations.

Police confirmed that an investigation was ongoing and the Suffolk Fire Service said the two members of staff had been suspended.

They have both been released on police bail and are due to report to a police station again on October 14.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said: “Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman from Felixstowe on suspicion of engaging in a sexual act in the presence of an under-16-year-old and a 38-year-old man from Felixstowe has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

“This relates to historic allegations dating back several years which are being investigated by police. Both have been bailed to return to Ipswich Police Station on October 14.”

A spokesman for Suffolk County Council said: "We can confirm that two members of staff in the fire service have been suspended.

“This is a police matter and therefore we cannot comment in any detail.

“However, it is important to stress that the allegations are in no way linked to their professional duties.”
