Two engines from Bury St Edmunds and a further vehicle from Ixworth were called to the incident on Coney Weston Road at around 9.45am on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for the fire service said that the horse had become stuck trying to get out of a horse box and that officers had attended to ensure everyone’s safety as the rescue was carried out.
Vets were also present on scene to safely help free the stuck animal.
In the end, the fire spokesperson said, the horse had to be tranquilised in order to successfully free it from its position.
The rescue was successful and officers from Suffolk Fire and Rescue were able to leave the scene of the incident shortly after 12pm.
