FLOODS paralysed roads across Essex this morning with many closed due to standing water.
The A12 was closed in both directions between junctions 12 and 14 near Mountnessing, although it was anticipated the trunk road would reopen by 9.15am.
Police urged motorists not to travel unless journeys were essential.
A spokeswoman said: “There is still a high risk of flooding. Essex Police is liaising with the environment Agency and is closely monitoring the situation, working with the fire and ambulance services and local authorities across the county.
“We are prepared to deploy resources wherever they are required.

“There is a risk to low lying properties close to rivers and localised flooding on roads.
“The Chelmsford area currently has the highest flood warning.”
Fire and rescue crews across Essex were working to pump water from important routes but many minor roads were still closed as a result of the flooding.
“Advice to motorists is not to travel unless absolutely necessary.”
