FOUR people have been killed and 13 more injured after a speeding car ploughed into a crowd of onlookers as they tried to catch a glimpse of the Netherlands' Queen Beatrix today.
The drama unfolded in the town of Apeldom during celebrations to mark the national holiday of Queen's Day as the monarch and her family waved to crowds from an open-top bus.
A small black car, which appeared to be heading towards the royal bus, sent people flying as it careered across police railings before ploughing into a stone monument yards from the bus.
A seriously injured man in the car, believed to be a 38-year-old Dutch national, was removed by police and taken away by ambulance for treatment.
