Temporary toilets have opened for visitors to a Suffolk park after a “last minute hitch” was resolved at no cost to the taxpayer.

Framlingham Town Council had agreed to hire the facilities at Pageant Field for eight weeks over the summer – but found they were unusable without steps.

The council agreed at its latest meeting to spend up to £300 on hiring the steps. Although councillors were reluctant to spend further funds on top of the £2,000 already agreed to hire and clean the toilets, it was felt necessary to prevent further delays in opening.

Stephanie Bennell, chairman of the Lands committee, said: “It’s a great relief.”

The toilet will be open each day from 8.30am-7pm, with daily inspections and cleaning. If it is well used, the council will consider funding a permanent toilet block.
