A ninja, a banana, a giant crayon, a free meal and free saws were all part of a charity event in Martlesham.

A kitchen supplier in Suffolk is pleased with the outcome of its free fish and chip day.

Howdens Joinery, located in Martlesham, held its annual trade day with local builders to help raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice.

The store offered a free meal, but welcomed donations, and encouraged people to bring in their old saws in exchange for a brand new one.

The branch work with Tools with a Mission run a program who take old saws and replace them for free. They then revamp the tools and send them to Africa and other parts of the world who are without these tools.

Staff at Howdens wore fancy dress for the event and came as a banana, a crayon, a ninja, Cruella de Vil and more.

More than 100 builders attended the event and over £200 was raised for St Elizabeth Hospice - 80 saws were also handed over.

Dan Tatum, store manager, said: “The day went well and we raised more this year then we have in the past. We feel the St Elizabeth Hospice are a worth while charity and they do a lot of good for the community.”
