CELEBRITIES rubbed shoulders with true heroes yesterday at a charity football match.

A team of soldiers from Colchester Garrison took on a team of sporting stars of yesteryear alongside actors, musicians and reality television stars.

The Game of History, held at Colchester United's Weston Homes Community Stadium, also featured the UK Cup Stars Celeb ladies v Army ladies in a six-a-side game as well as a show by the Red Devils parachute team.

The match was raising funds and awareness for the Army Benevolent Fund, the British Legion and Help for Heroes.

Colonel Philips from Colchester Garrison said “This soccer match is yet another demonstration of the strength of support the civic, civil and business communities of Colchester afford to HM Forces.

“On behalf of all troops, Colchester Garrison and the veterans, we are most grateful to the organisers, Colchester United, Colchester Borough Council and the many other contributors for their enthusiastic support.”
