Thousands of visitors to a major agricultural show have seen the region’s farmers showcase their finest produce.
The weather may not have been kind to the 126th South Suffolk Show but it did not seem to spoil the mood, according to one of the organisers, Geoff Bailes.
Set in 80 acres at Ampton Racecourse, near Bury St Edmunds, the event saw a mixture of family-friendly attractions alongside the more traditional farming classes.
Mr Bailes, show secretary, said: “Under the circumstances we had a very successful show. It’s gone ahead with the weather and wind and everything else. The competitions went to plan, it was a little chilly, but it’s an agricultural show.
“The crowds are down on previous years, quite understandably as there’s also been the Women’s Tour which finished in Bury St Edmunds, three miles from here.
“The ground has rode well for the horses, the livestock people were happy and we had record turnouts for cattle and pig.”
The show has run almost every year since 1888 and preparations for 2015’s event are already in hand.
