A 120-strong crowd of walkers strode along the Suffolk coast yesterday to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The 14th annual Walk on the Wildside began and ended in Thorpeness, with pink-attired participants opting to cover a seven-mile or 12 -mile route.

Everyone paid 20 to take part in the event which, along with a generously supplied raffle, raised around 4,000 for the charity.

Among the raffle prizes on offer were an hour’s home consultation, cushions and a voucher from Woodbridge-based Pippa Rolls. A returning team of walkers from London, “the Gallopin’ Gals”, also provided prizes, while Melton osteopathy and physical health company Parry and Gilmour supplied ice packs in goodie bags for each participant.

Sarah Williams, who helped organise the event, said: “It was a lovely day and people were incredibly generous in donating prizes and buying tickets for the raffle.

“Some of those taking part are recovering or have recovered from breast cancer, and many have family or friends who have been affected.”

Among the many women taking part this year were four men raising money for Breakthrough, a charity committed to finding the causes of breast cancer, improving detection, diagnosis, treatment and services.

The next Walk on the Wildside is already being planned for the first Thursday of next October.
