It was full steam ahead in one Suffolk village this weekend as record crowds turned out to sample an annual extravaganza celebrating days gone by.

Around 5,000 people perused the array of attractions on show at this year’s Woolpit Steam Fair, held across the sprawling grounds of Warren Farm in Wetherden.

Visitors and exhibitors from across the country were treated to a assortment of steam power in its broadest form, including the fair’s famed selection of pre-1930s tractors - some of which helped stave off hunger during the First World War. Organiser Andy Seeley - who had taken the week off work along with his brothers Gerald and David to prepare the fair - said the weekend’s charitable efforts would be announced in the coming weeks, with the fair raising £16,500 last year.
