A bid to turn garden centre land into 24 flats will hinge on developers making a proper contribution to more affordable housing.

In January, Notcutts applied to renew permission granted eight years previously for a block of flats on land used for storage in Woodbridge.

It was part of wider planning permission, which lapsed in 2012, but had already seen construction of Framfield House Surgery and Clarkson Court retirement flats.

The new application was deferred from September – on the grounds that insufficient provision had been made for affordable housing – but will be back in front of Suffolk Coastal’s planning committee on Thursday, November 16.

The application is recommended for approval, providing an appropriate financial contribution is made towards affordable housing elsewhere.

If an appropriate financial contribution cannot be agreed, officers recommend refusal.
