A METHANE tank blaze at a council tip sparked a response from emergency services before they discovered it was a false alarm.
Firefighters were called out to the gas tank on fire at a civic amenity site in Paper Mill Lane, Bramford, shortly after 10pm last night.
Initial reports suggested there was one methane gas silo well alight and venting off at the tip.
But two fire engines from Princes Street attended the scene to find it was a controlled “flaring off” of the methane tanks, and left the situation under the site manager’s control.
