A GERMAN man accused of murdering a student from Stowmarket appeared in court this morning.

David Heiss, 21, is charged with the murder of 20-year-old Matthew Pyke and appeared via video link at Nottingham Crown Court.

Mr Pyke was found dead by his girlfriend Joanna Witton in his flat above the Orange Tree pub in Nottingham city centre on September 19.

He left Stowmarket two years ago to move to the city and was due to start a degree at Nottingham Trent University in October.

Heiss of Dauborn, near Limburg, in the Hessen region of Germany, was arrested in Germany on September 24 and brought back to the UK on Tuesday November 25.

Wearing a burgundy jumper with a gold crucifix pendant, he spoke only to confirm his name.

He will next appear in court on March 2 when he is expected to enter a plea.
