Train services running through Stowmarket station are returning to normal following an earlier broken down freight train but delays can still be expected.

The broken down train blocked the crossings on Station Road East and Regent Street in the town, and police advised motorists to find another route if possible.

The railway line towards Ipswich is now open but services are still subject to delay, cancellation or alteration.

The disruption is expected until 10pm.

Greater Anglia tweeted at 7.13pm: “Train services running through Stowmarket are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 80 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 10pm.” KC

Passengers are being urged to check the Greater Anglia website for more information and advice.
