A Halesworth man is running the London Marathon for a very special cause.
Craig Stammers is taking part in the race for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT). Mr Stammers and his wife, Ruth, have three children; Chloe, aged six, Molly, aged three, and Alfie, who is 11 months old.
Chloe was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at three weeks old through the heal prick test and since then the family have supported the work of CFT. In 2008 he and his friends took part in the Great North Run and raised £8,000, and in 2011 he organised a pier to pier run from Lowestoft to Southwold raising more than £12,000.
Mr Stammers said: “I hope to finish in under 3hrs 45mins but as it’s my first marathon I’ll be pleased to get round. I’ve dropped alcohol and fast food since Boxing Day and put plenty of hours in on the local roads to give myself the best chance.”
