LAKESIDE Hammers have confirmed that Jonas Davidsson will be out of racing for a fortnight following a crash in Poland on Thursday night.

The popular Swede was hit by a stray machine and taken immediately to hospital with head and facial injuries. He is flying back to Sweden today to seek further medical treatment.

Hammers Team Manager Jon Cook commented on hearing the news from Poland: “It’s a blow to lose JD for tonight’s home League match against Eastbourne plus at Peterborough on Monday as he has been our form rider of late and Rider Replacement will not be a worthy cover for him but I am sure that the rest of the team will step up to the challenge. He should be fit to return in time for our meeting on the 12th July.”

The action against the Eastbourne Eagles gets underway at the Arena-Essex Raceway tonight with the parade of riders at 7.50pm with the opening heat scheduled for 8pm. Normal admission prices will apply although members of the Armed Forces and their families will be given free admission to this meeting on production of valid services ID as part of Speedway’s support of tomorrow’s Armed Forces Day.
