There are just a few weeks left before nominations for this year’s Stars of Suffolk Awards close.
The ceremony, which is supported by the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times, celebrates real-life heroes living in the county and will see 13 categories ranging from outstanding bravery to sporting achievement.
Mick Parker, of Parker Communications, launched the awards in 2007.
He said: “We started the awards 10 years ago because we have the kit and the knowledge to run events and have a great affinity and connection with the community, and we wanted to give something back.
“While there are many wonderful awards ceremonies, but we wanted to design one that was for everybody and celebrate the real heroes – people who do wonderful things and don’t even realise they are doing it.”
Each nomination is judged by a panel of people made up of sponsoring organisations, and the winners will be announced at a special event at Trinity Park, on the outskirts of Ipswich, on November 9.
So far, 260 nominations have been entered for this year’s ceremony and Mr Parker said the standards keep getting higher.
“As the awards have grown and got better known the nominations we’re getting are far stronger and more meaningful than ever before. The public are beginning to understand what they are about and who can become nominated.”
With so many people getting involved with the awards over the years, Mr Parker said he has met some extraordinary people.
“There was a young man who was in sixth form and he heard a lady screaming,” he said.
“He saw her husband was trying to strangle her and he managed to intervene and saved her life. He went on to win an award from Suffolk Constabulary and a national one too.
“His mother wrote me a letter and said this had changed his life.”
Mr Parker praised his team for the work they put in behind the scenes for each award and said the night is sure to be emotional.
